at Delft University of Technology, Mechanical Engineering & Marine Technology Building, Mekelweg 2.
The technical presentation is titled:
“Use of electric drives in offshore motion systems”
Planning of the evening:
19:00 - 19:30 for Coffee and Tea Greeting,
19:30 Technical Presentation: Mr. Leon Martens of Bosch Rexroth, Netherlands division
21:30 Refreshments and Social time
21:50 Departure
Abstract for the Technical Presentation:
Bosch Rexroth designs, produces and delivers different types of offshore heave compensation systems (naval
replenishment systems, cranes, winches, etc.). Bosch Rexroth, plant Boxtel, the Netherlands, is a company
which is from origin specialised in hydraulically driven systems. Most of its offshore systems are driven by
hydraulic equipment. During the past decades however, the systems are more and more equipped with electric
drives instead of hydraulic drives. This is both caused by new developments in electrical engineering as well
as by customer demand. Both types of drives have their specific advantages and disadvantages. In this lecture
an overview is given of the reason's to choose for a specific drive.
Special attention will be given to a system where the application of electric motors has caused engineering
challenges; naval replenishment systems.
